A 25-year veteran of the gaming industry, Paul Sams has spent the majority of his career as the second-highest senior executive at Blizzard Entertainment. During his tenure, Paul Sams spearheaded the launch of the company’s most successful titles such as Diablo, World of WarCraft, StarCraft, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch.
As the company’s Global COO and its President of Blizzard Europe, Sams has helped grow the company from 40 employees with an 8 million dollar appraisal to a global corporation comprised of more than 4,000 employees and an 8 billion dollar valuation.
Considered by many to be one of the “Godfathers of esports,” Sams has been deeply involved in esports since its infancy spearheading the first known esports event in Seoul, South Korea for StarCraft in 1998.
In 2009, the Sams family became a minority investor of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, Sams and his wife opened the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy at the University of Texas
in Austin, which provides education on the business of video games and esports.
